Ambiguity

Monday, 27th June 2005, 11:04 am

Edit: the author emailed me, and all bad feeling on my part has now evaporated. So, whilst I’m still an awkward git, at least I’m an awkward git in a decent mood again ;)

Well, I’m not entirely sure how to feel about this. Someone’s released a copy of my radio widget.

That’s cool, and I’m flattered. It’s also got quite a nice skin. Here’s what’s peeved me though - he didn’t ask permission, and any mention of my name has mysteriously disappeared.

Well, I didn’t forbid that, so I suppose I can’t complain (I shall be adding a few lines to the start of every file in the download soon though) - and I guess I’m just really vain, and want people to love me. I do feel a bit hurt though. At least it doesn’t suck, that would have just been insulting! :D

On the plus side, it’s made me think seriously about adding a new skin to the widget, and given me some ideas. Also, there’s gonna be an authorised copy coming out soon for some Swedish stations. Yay :)

PS - to anyone experiencing that crash after sleep/ on network disconnect, I’m working on it.

Told you it needed skins :P

Also, perhaps there’s some way to let it parse the active page in safari for realplayer streams and save them to the list on the back. Then it’d be one radio widget to rule them all!

Then again, perhaps that kind of functionality is a bit beyond you….

    :D

Heh. Cool idea, but even if my javascript skills were up to page parsing, it’d be a nightmare of a UI… I’ve considered having a widget where you just paste in a stream url - easy peasy.

But then I think, how boring. What else could I make? :D

It would really annoy me if someone copied my widget. If I had a widget I mean.
I’d personally like a small monkey that dances in time to the sound (music) the stream outputs. That’d be amazing.

    He he.

Make a widget that gets the number of Safari’s unread news feeds from a cocoa plugin and displays it, then trick some clever sod into making said plugin!

Or you could make a decent adium message style or something. Or maybe a pleasing series 60 skin?

Sam: do you like MY message styles?

  7. Sam Says:

Which ones do you do again?

Not quite sure how to respond to advertising for another widget ;) It wasn’t around when I first released this. Also, it doesn’t work for me, but, meh.
