That's astonishing value! I'm glad it didn't cost you too much to replace.

Yeah, I gather the TZ1 is an equally good camera, just with slightly different decisions made in its construction. Tom's certainly happy with his TZ3, and got some outstanding photos from his trip -- including some at full zoom that any other pocketable camera just wouldn't have been able to make. I'm quite jealous.

I might have to look into eBay for some kit on a (very) tight budget. Thanks for the tip!

Great choice on this one. If you're looking for one for yourself, though, it's possible to find them cheaper at eBay (etc.) online. I've been using the previous version, the TZ1 for several months now, and I love it. From what I've read, it's almost identical to the TZ3. I think it's slightly heavier/bigger and has a even-so-slightly smaller screen and lens width (?), but it's otherwise essentially the same camera ... except that the TZ1 can be found for cheap, cheap, cheap. My beloved TZ1 got stolen last weekend, but I just found a barely used replacement on eBay for $90 (£60). And you just can't beat that.

Next time you're looking at digital SLRs, have a play with a Pentax K100D or K100D Super. Then compare prices and full specifications (not just number of pixels) with Nikon and Canon. OK, costs more than the Panasonic TZ3, but the image quality, if you shoot RAW, is superb.
