The Unofficial BBC Radio Widget

Super-Secret-Hush-Hush Beta Page

Many thanks for being a beta tester.
It’s a great help to me, and everyone who uses the widget.

Currently, we’re testing version 4.5 of the widget. WMA streaming is new, and on by default if you have Flip4Mac. Woo!

The most important issue is whether WMA streaming works for you. National stations should use it, and allow you to alter the volume, as well as correctly feed back when the stream is bufferring or stopped. Local streams still use Flash.

Please send all feedback, especially on the areas named below, to hawkman@[this domain]. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me improve this widget!

Download v4.5b2

  • Does WMA streaming work for you? Is volume enabled? Does it behave as expected when your internet connection goes down, etc.? This is the big one! Anything that behaves unexpectedly is important.
  • If you were nagged about Flip4Mac, did it work as you’d expect? If you don’t have it installed and you weren't asked to install it, that’s a bug.
  • Do the schedules work as expected? This includes tooltips, and whether the right programme is selected. These are very hard to test, as they are time-dependent. If you notice anything weird please be in touch.
  • Do all stations work for you?
  • If you've upgraded from an earlier beta, did the update notification work logically?
  • Anything that seems wonky or illogical!

Changes in v4.5 beta 2 include:

  • WMA streaming added for local stations (this is less reliable than national stations, feedback please!)
  • Fixed the “you should use flip4mac” dialog on local stations
  • WMA streaming is much better at coping with timeouts and automatically resuming

Changes in v4.5 beta 1 include:

  • WMA streaming for national and regional stations, with volume control
  • Fixed some schedule bugs, with Radio 5 Live and Radio 4
  • Prettied up the schedule tooltips
